Lavender Essential Oil
Sourced from Spain and France
This aromatic wonder is more than just a fragrance oil. Lavender essential oil is a powerful skin tonic, with a terpene composition that improves the appearance of both sensitive and acne-prone skin.
At Nairian we use two types of lavender essential oil: Spike Lavender and English Lavender, which come to us from Spain and France. These essential oils are distilled from the fragrant flowers of the Lavender plant through a steam distillation process.
Lavender is excellent for all skin types, but those with acne-prone and sensitive skin will enjoy it best. The terpenes, camphor and eucalyptol in the Spike Lavender fade signs of breakouts, which is why it is a key component in our anti-acne collection. English lavender, on the other hand, is extremely soothing to the skin, and is especially beneficial for those who are sensitive or irritation-prone. English Lavender also contains both linalool and linalyl acetate, phytochemicals that minimize redness and even the skin tone.
More Reasons to Love Lavender
Lavender oil is extremely important in the history of aromatherapy. Rene-Maurice Gattefose, the father of aromatherapy, is said to have become interested in the healing properties of essential oils as a result of an accident with a bunsen burner. The story goes that, after badly burning his hand, Gattefose submerged it in the nearest liquid he could find, which happened to be lavender oil. Later, he noticed that the burn was healing much quicker than expected, and attributed the cause to the lavender oil.
While that is a wonderful origin story, the reality of the matter is a little different. Since Gattefose had already been researching the medicinal properties of essential oils, the decision to treat himself with lavender oil was very much informed by his research. It’s a lovely tale, that ties in nicely with the wonderful benefits lavender oil has for everything from burns to breakouts.
